'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Young People Await Answers After Alpine Fire
The relatives of teens missing after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's ski resort are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for confirmed information and appealing for any details about their loved ones online.
The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Circulated video show the ceiling igniting as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have stated that it could take considerable time to identify the fatalities of the disaster, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and hurt another 119. Authorities said on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with work still underway to identify the other six.
In the meantime, families and friends have been using online platforms to plead for clues about their loved ones who were at the bar that evening.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his mother.
The resident of Lutry near the city, informed a publication that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She continued that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its young people remain missing.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now residing in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Additional Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"Someone with him said they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
